Product details

This extraordinary Japanese screen is hand embroidered with silver work thread and depicts Guardian lions, also known as Komainu, Shishi or Foo Dogs.  These are mythical, lion-like creatures seen across a breadth of art forms.  They are full of meaning - they symbolise prosperity, success and guardianship.  The Meiji period lasted from 1868 until 1912.  There is a wonderful three dimensional appearance to this piece.  We like it wall mounted as a piece of art, but it can also be used as a room screen.
